We are a referral-only food bank, with a difference. We don't hand out food parcels. Instead, we offer clients referred to us a 15 minute appointment in our 'shop with no till'. We stock a variety of supplies:
Our Community Cupboard is situated outside the Store and is accessible to all during the Store's opening hours. It contains good quality, excess produce from local supermarkets that is surplus to the Store's needs.
Anyone in the local community is welcome to visit the Cupboard to take items of fresh produce/bread they’ll make use of, while being considerate to others. The Cupboard is supplemented with non-perishable basics such as baked beans, pasta and soup - specifically intended for those who really need a little extra help but don’t have a referral to the Store.
This is all made possible through the kindness and generosity of the people and businesses of Godalming & Villages. Their donations of items and funds ensure our shelves are stocked with supplies to support the clients referred to us.
We work together with other local foodbanks, charities & support agencies to try to make sure that our help reaches those who need it most. We also help customers to make links with other organisations who can help address the issues they face.
We do everything we can do to avoid food waste and ensure any donations are put to best use. We share perishable items and bulk donations with local community services such as other foodbanks, care providers or shelters for the homeless.
We formed in April 2020 as a result of the pandemic. Initially we worked under the umbrella of Godalming Town Council (GTC), with volunteers from across the community working alongside Council staff. For 16 months the Council staffed the phone and email contact lines, provided premises for us, collected donated items and managed all of the finances behind the scenes.
In May 2022 we moved to our current location in Farncombe and began to transition out from the umbrella of the Council's support. In June 2022 we became and UK registered charity, eligible for Gift Aid, and are now 100% volunteer run.
